Finding your Colour

Finding the best colour for your complexion is ofcourse subjective to personal preference. And although there are probably many shades that will look good on you, it’s helpful to know your skin’s undertone. The skin undertone is the hue under your skin colour.

TYPES OF

Skin Undertones

  • COOL

reddish, pink, or blue skin undertones

    • you burn easily or tan very slowly
    • look better in rose gold, platinum and silver jewelry
    • blue or purple vains

  • WARM

yellow, peach, or golden skin undertone

    • you tan easily
    • look better in gold jewelry
    • green vains

  • NEUTRAL

a blend of both cool and warm undertones

    • you tan slowly and don’t often burn
    • both gold and silver jewelry looks great on you
    • combination of blue & green vains

  • OLIVE

a blend of both neutral and warm undertones along with green, an undertone that is considered unique to olive skin only

    • you tan easily
    • look better in gold jewelry
    • cannot determine the colour of your veins or if they match your skin colour

The Vein test

Observing your veins is the quickest way to determine your skin undertone. Check the veins that are visible on your wrists or underarm to see what colour they are.

  • If your veins appear bluish or purple, you probably have cool undertones.
  • If your veins appear greenish, you probably have warm undertones.
  • If they are a mix of both (blue and green), you probably have a neutral undertone.
  • If they match your skin colour and you cannot determine the colour of your veins, it is most likely that you have olive undertones.
BEST COLOURS FOR

Your Undertone

  • COOL

Fair or light skin: experiment with beiges, pinks, muted mauves, and any bold and bright colour. Make sure that your bright colours have a blue or purple undertone.

Medium or deep skin: You can go a bit bolder. Try fuschia pink, deep plum, and poppy. Pick blue-toned colours.

Avoid colours that have yellow and orange undertones.

  • WARM

Fair or light skin: go for light coral, peachy nudes & pinks or nudes that lean towards brown. For a bolder option choose reds that are orange based, like brick or terracotta, but also warm vibrant berry shades, like raspberry.

Medium or deep skin: look for warm or peachy browns or berry lipstick colours with orange undertones, shades like burgundy, deep reds, brick and terracotta.

    Avoid blue toned colours.

  • NEUTRAL

Any colour will look good, it's a matter of preference.

  • OLIVE

Olive skin is the most versatile skin tone to have when choosing a lip colour, because you have both neutral and warm undertones. This means you can wear almost all colours of lipstick from nude to peach, orange, pink and red, purple and plum.
